Our Mission

Friends of The Cliffs mission is to promote and protect the Vermilion Cliffs National Monument and the surrounding areas in northern Arizona.

We will accomplish this by providing resources such as volunteers, expertise, public out reach, and funding to the National Landscape Conservation System and Vermilion Cliffs National Monument.

Friends of The Cliffs actively partners with the Bureau of Land Management, Bodaway/Gap Chapter of the Navajo nation and other organizations in land conservation, education, recreation, advocacy, interpretation, and research.

Our Vision

Friends of the Cliffs’ vision is to enhance the connection between people and the landscape and cultural heritage of Vermilion Cliffs National Monument, the National Landscape Conservation System, and other treasured places.

Our Values

  • We are dedicated to practices which respect the land and lighten our foot print on the land.
  • We support the National Landscape Conservation System program of public land management.
  • We value the heritage and partnership with Bodaway/Gap Chapter of the Navajo Nation and the multi cultural perspectives of the area resources and history.

Our Objectives

  • Assist the BLM with implementing management plans and mandates aimed toward protection of Monument resources.
  • Promote the protection and sustainable use of Monument resources.
  • Coordinate scientific, cultural and historic research of the Monument and surrounding area.
  • Assist with the development of recreational plans in cooperation with Bodaway/Gap.
  • Partner with Grand Canyon Trust’s science and stewardship programs for Kane and Two Mile Ranches.
  • Develop and distribute education materials, maps and brochures.
  • Raise funds to support Friends of The Cliffs and Bureau of Land Management projects.
  • Advocate for state and public lands.
